French 75

Some evenings call for a nightcap. Whatever the occasion, a service for one or an intimate drink for two is a sophisticated offering. This cocktail recipe was shared as part of my Sweet Nightcap series on Instagram.

Ingredients

Basic Recipe

  • 4-6 cracked ice cubes into the shaker
  • 2 measures brandy
  • 1 measure fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp simple syrup
  • chilled champagne, to top off
  • To decorate:
  • twist of lemon peel
 

Instructions

  1. Put the cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker. Pour the brandy, lemon juice, and simply syrup over the ice and shake vigorously until a frost forms.

  2. Strain into a chilled highball glass and top off with champagne. Decorate with the lemon twist.

  3. Enjoy!

Second Version:

  1. Put 4-6 cracked ice cubes into a cocktail shaker.

  2. Pour 2 measures Plymouth gin and 1 measure fresh lime juice over the ice and shake vigorously until a frost forms.

  3. Strain into a chilled wine glass and top off with chilled champagne.

  4. Decorate with a cocktail cherry.

Second Version:

  1. Put 1 teaspoon superfine sugar into a tall, chilled glass.

  2. Add 1 measure fresh lemon juice and stir until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. Fill the glass with cracked ice cubes.

  4. Pour 2 measures gin over the ice and top off with chilled champagne.

  5. Decorate with slices of orange and cocktail cherries.
