How’d I Get My Name

How’d I Get My Name

A fun little fact about how Vee the Baker came to be.

After long hours and a successful work week at a Big Four, come Friday afternoon at 3 pm mostly everyone on the floor was looking for a lil’ something sweet’ to celebrate & smile about. So, in comes me with a pushing cart and carrying a basket filled with individually wrapped cupcakes. I started selling individual cupcakes every week to my coworkers.

It was already known to everyone that I baked "like I was barefoot in the kitchen,” (as I think that’s how they used to say it) because of my potluck contributions. After a couple of months of steady cupcake sales, the orders started pinging in with coworkers requesting cupcakes ahead of time for the weekend ensuring they have some to share with their families. Then holidays came, and cupcakes turned into cakes and pies.

The first order came from a coworker, at the time, by the name of Veronica. This Veronica actually encouraged me to take on additional orders, and step out… making baking A BUSINESS! She was my first cake order and still remains a loyal customer of Vee’s Bakeshoppe today. Our coworkers began to differentiate us, Veronica’s, by referring to me as, “the one that bakes. She’s the Baker.” Ever since, I’ve been Vee the Baker.

V with two E’s

I chose to go with Vee (two e’s) because my mother’s name begins with ‘V’ and she goes by that as well. She’s Virginia. Growing up, my stepfather called my mother ‘V’ and me ‘Vee Vee,’ or at least that’s how I’ve always envisioned my nickname spelled.

Modern take on southern hospitality.

So, here we are at Vee the Baker. My lil’ corner of the internet where I share my sweet life in & out of the kitchen.

In between all the food we’ll be enjoying, I’ll share the things I enjoy when the stove isn’t on like my home projects, conversations over a cocktail, and tackling those mundane tasks with a breeze & less stress.

I utterly enjoy cooking & baking, equally if I’m honest. And while you may not want to spend as much time in the kitchen as I do, I want to equip you with the knowledge and tips (and delicious recipes, too) so that when you do step in the kitchen, you IMPRESS YOURSELF!

Simply put, I just wanna help y’all cook soul-soothing meals and decadent desserts that come together without any hiccups. The motto around here is Dinner is essential, Dessert is required!

I’d love to hear from you so don’t be afraid to reach out!
